SCOPE OF WORK
The Township of Armstrong embarked on a website redesign project with the aim of enhancing the online experience for both visitors and administration. The primary objective was to create a user-friendly and accessible website that complies with WCAG 2.0 (AA) accessibility guidelines.
The Township of Armstrong is a vibrant Francophone community located in northeastern Ontario. With extensive agricultural roots and fertile farmland, the township has a rich history that dates back to its settlement in the late 1800s. Officially incorporated in 1921, Armstrong has primarily been an agricultural community, with a focus on dairy, beef, and crop farming. Today, agriculture and industry remain important economic drivers for the community.
The objective of redesigning the website was to create an engaging and user-friendly online platform that effectively communicates the township's vibrant Francophone community, rich history, and agricultural heritage. The website aimed to showcase the township as a desirable community for full-time residents and tourists alike. By integrating modern design elements, intuitive navigation, and responsive functionality, the website enhances the user experience and provides easy access to information about local businesses, activities, and attractions.
The vision for the Township of Armstrong is to improve the population’s quality of life, minimize youth exodus, stimulate job creation, and protect existing year-round businesses and activities. The township strives to encourage tourism, become a community of choice for full-time residents, promote sustainable growth, support pollution-free development, and develop a healthy lifestyle community that embraces the Northern lifestyle. Preserving and promoting the Francophone nature of the community is also a core aspect of the vision.
The mission of the Township of Armstrong is to be recognized as a leader in growing, expanding, and creating local value-added businesses that utilize local assets. By fostering economic development, attracting new residents, and promoting sustainable practices, the township aims to create a vibrant and prosperous community.
1. Graphical and Intuitive Content Management System: The website aimed to provide a user-friendly and visually appealing content management system that could be easily maintained by both technical and non-technical staff.
2. WCAG 2.0 (AA) Accessibility Compliance: The website was designed to meet accessibility standards, ensuring that all users, including those with disabilities, could access and navigate the content effectively.
3. Support for Various Media and Document Formats: The website provided support for different media types, such as images, videos, and documents, allowing the municipality to showcase its content in a wide range of formats.
4. Responsive Design: The website was designed to be responsive, adapting seamlessly to different screen sizes and devices, ensuring a consistent and optimal user experience across desktops, tablets, and mobile devices.
5. SEO Implementation: The website was optimized for search engines, utilizing best practices to improve visibility and search engine rankings, making it easier for users to find relevant information about the municipality.
6. Community News & Alerts Module: The Community News & Alerts module plays a vital role in keeping residents up to date with the latest news and announcements. This feature serves as an invaluable communication channel, providing a centralized platform for sharing important information within the community. Whether it’s announcements from the local government, updates on community events, or news about ongoing projects, the community news module ensures that residents have easy access to relevant and timely information.
7. Fire Rating Module: The inclusion of a Fire Rating module allows local residents to easily access crucial information about fire ratings and associated rules and by-laws from our quick view widget. This tool ensures that residents stay informed about fire risks and can take appropriate measures to protect themselves and their communities, ultimately enhancing their safety and preparedness.
8. Service Requests Module: Our service request module offers a convenient and user-friendly self-serve online tool, allowing residents to effortlessly submit their requests. With our module, managing and addressing residents’ needs has never been easier, enhancing efficiency and customer satisfaction.
9. Business Directory: The business directory module simplifies the process of adding local businesses, enabling residents to easily locate them. An outstanding feature of the directory is its ability to dynamically feed categories into various sections of the website. By updating a directory listing, the content seamlessly propagates throughout the site, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information for users.
The redesigned website successfully enhanced the online presence, user experience and accessibility. It features an inviting homepage, a user-friendly interface, and a range of intuitive tools that make navigation and information retrieval effortless. The business directory enables locals and visitors to easily discover and support local enterprises, while the community news section keeps everyone well-informed. In addition, we provided training to the municipal staff, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to effectively utilize the tools and features we implemented.
